Last winter was brutal in the north and we sustained substantial water damage from condensation inside of our home. Soffit vents alone won t provide enough ventilation since the rising heat would get trapped under your roof without any vents on the flat part of the mansard. I own a mansard and we are battling this issue. This should be done with conventional roof vents and conventional soffit vents if the lower attic communicates with the upper attic.

Soffit and box vents are static and utilize naturally moving air. It currently has vinyl soffit with no vents. The total amount of ventilation area should be 1 300 of the floor space of the attic. The owner wants to keep the price as low as possible.

We had our roof replaced last year and the roofer that did it didn t even install 1 10th of the recommended ventilation. How would you recommend providing intake ventilation for this old mansard roof. This house is about 90 years old i m not sure venting the soffit is going to do much good. The husband is unemployed.
